Source: Former US officials predict peace summit failure | Special reports | Guardian Unlimited:
The Bush administration today was warned that it was setting itself up for the failure of its Middle East peace summit in a rare critique of foreign policy from former senior US diplomats.
In a letter to the secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice, which was obtained by the Guardian today, the former White House officials said Washington had neglected to lay the groundwork for a successful meeting of US, Israeli and Arab leaders.
This is not surprising at all. The only diplomatic capital this administration has devoted any world problem was Colin Powell’s UN Speech–the one he regrets. That speech did not even secure a real Coalition to Get Iraqi Oil. This administration is as interested in peace as I am in American Idol.
