On Specter

If Arlen Specter is a Liberal Democract with a LEFT LEANING Voting record, then I am Che Fucking Guevara.

That being said, any thoughts?

Updates

Over the past month, we’ve had a two dozen showings, daily deep cleanings, three intakes, two evals and half a dozen other things that I don’t really remember doing. I cut down on blog posts, phone calls and WoW.

Things that occurred over the past few days:

1) This American Life’s live program

2) Signed a Contract with a buyer.

3) Made Breakfast.

I’ll let Shannon tell you the rest

Pardon the dust

But I’m running back and forth between projects, clients, phone calls and very important things. Big updates coming monday!

Bringing out the Worst

I firmly believe that there are certain things (persons, places, days of the week, certain months) that bring out the worst in us. I’ve met, and discussed, a few of the people who bring out the worst in me. Now I’d like to share with you the place that does the same.

Target.

Target Springfield, VA

Originally uploaded by j.reed

I cannot stand Target. This has nothing to do with whatever their policies are on unions, living wages and fairly traded goods. Oh no. I hate target for emotional reasons.

I will do whatever it takes to avoid going to Target. If forced into Target, my senses are overwhelmed with negatives. All I see are crowds. Everyone near me has terrible body odor. All I can here are inane conversations OR shitty muzack. All I feel are people bumping into me or my cart. Target takes variety and low prices and uses it to halve the IQ of fully functional human beings. People will sit and stare at items, in the middle of an aisle. These same shoppers will stare at a wall of items–let’s say deodorant–and will not move to let other shoppers get the items that they have selected. People will walk, without care, into other people.

I won’t even talk about the lines. They’re always fucking packed. Target’s low prices seem to stem from having so few staff.

Today, because Shannon asked nicely, I found myself in Target getting a few house hold items. On five separate occasions, full grown adults who, seduced by low prices, ran into me while pushing their gigantic shopping carts. Not one excuse me. Not one apology. I did manage to get a dirty look out of people who I apologized to when I passed by too close.

That’s when I gave into the masses and stopped caring about who I bumped into with my little hand cart. We all made the decision to suffer in Target, therefore, there is no reason to really apologize.

Target: Greatland is a total misnomer. It is Target: Shopping via Mob Action.

Saturday is the new Friday

We have 6 showings tomorrow. This means that after a quick dinner, we’ll be cleaning the condo from top to bottom. This also means that from 11:00 to 4:00 we’ll be out of the condo doing Something Else.

If tomorrow is a brilliant spring day, being out won’t be a problem. If we get an offer, this will all be worth it. Otherwise, it’s just another day of work.

Given that extra work time, I’ll have another post up tomorrow on my feelings of Build a Better Blog in 31 days.

Friday fiction, for this week, is over at WTT:RP. Enjoy your weekend folks!

Keep on Rocking in the Free World!

For as much shit as I’ve given Neil Young, I love his track,”Keep on Rocking in the Free World.” For your listening pleasure, I’ve posted it

Why are we going to keep on rocking today? Because President Obama has announced that we will not prosecute those CIA Officerswho were involved in torture.

President Barack Obama has also issued a statement guaranteeing that no CIA employees will be prosecuted for their role in the interrogation programme.

This leaves wiggle room for prosecuting the people behind the legal opinions, the executive branch officials who generated this unconstitutional “ideas against our professed values” and private contractors who were involved in the torture, but I find that unlikely. Individuals complicit in this torture scheme don’t need to confess for immunity. They do not have any incentive for Truth and Reconciliation. Obama has made it clear that there will be no going forward on this issue.

Take heart Wingnuts: You won something. Your cries of partisanship and “Obama’s unilateral stances” fall on deaf ears. You got exactly what you wanted: Zero accountability for disregarding the law. Now, but your tea bags in your pants, turn off 24 and put down your Jack Bauer/Scalia Slash Fic. Now it is your turn to give something back. I suggest turning off Fox news for at least one hour everyday.

On Sex Ed

I do not think it can be too early to talk to kids about respect, sexuality and anatomy. There will be huge differences based on age, but kids should be taught as soon as possible about their bodies. Kids are curious and they will find their answers one way or the other. I believe in parents educating their kids as soon as possible, despite having a father who reluctantly spoke to me about sex when I was 14.

So when a guest Blogger at Shakesville posted an article about Sex Education and male privilege, I read her review and the original NY Times article. To be honest, I did not initially walk with the same reading as the post’s author. That moment passed when I read the comments and reread the article.

Talking to kids about sex and sexuality is only as awkward as one makes it. Sex educators develop rapport with their students/clients to eliminate the awkwardness.

Talking to children about the eliminating violence in relationships is not hard, it is just our job.

Ask A Bastard Edition: Condo Question

aab2-1-tm.jpg

My cousin Jack, who used to blog, asked this question: Why are you selling your apartment? Isn’t it a historically bad time to do something like that?

We’re selling now because we need to. While there are a number of variables that we could deal with (mortgage rates, dealing with equity, credit cards etc) we need to live simply and save money. Given that we’re working on one income now–and the nature of all of my debts–the best thing to do is cut losses and sell.

Yes, it is a bad time to sell ESPECIALLY if sell at the height-of-the-bubble-values. Given we are selling at market rates, I’m comfortable with the decision. Hell, we get at least six showings a week. Someone is bound to buy the place.

Bonnie Lancellotti wondered whether hospital staff noticed anything amiss while treating Vargas. “This person’s clearly lost his sense,” she said. “I mean, what else can you say, eating people’s skin?”

This is exactly what Max Brooks warned us about. Activate your Zombie Survival Plans.
